Rosti Farm - The 3 in 1 store

I was racking my brains and was suggesting rosti to Darling and he said he know of a new place to bring me. Once there, i was scratching my head as this place seem to be selling chocolate than Rosti.

Casting my doubts, i decided to give this place a shot.

Rosti (S$14) wasn't fantastic, its not crispy, salted nor cheese. Its just plain. But the sausage that comes with the rosti is not too bad and is juicy and sweet.
Rated: 5/10 (the sausages are the saving grace here)

Hot chocolate with milk 66% cocoa (S$8) is not bad. Better and more value than Angelina for sure.
Rated: 6/10

Finally the dessert, we chose the flourless chocolate cake. I like the thick chocolate but the cake crumbles on every spoonful but still consider acceptable.
Rated: 5/10

Good for those on budget as pricing is very reasonable and cravings for chocolate.

Ramen Keisuke Kani - Bad service so-so ramen

Happens that my sister, brother-in-law and baby niece is in the vicinity, we arranged to have dinner date at Ramen Keisuke Kani. Reached cineleisure and there is already a long line formed. I estimated the wait to be at least an hour. Since Darling is still having his haircut, we decided to bite the bullet and joined the queue.

The hour wait wasn't that bad but when we are the next patrons to enter the shop, we are told to move our stroller. Ok, sure we moved it to a side. Then again the usher keep telling us we are in the way of the entrance (p.s my baby niece is fussy so once we sit she will start to wail). We endured the usher many comments that we are in the way while trying also not to block the way of other patrons.

Finally we got to sit down and ordered our food. There appetizers and hard boiled eggs that are available for free. So we scooped and enjoyed the FREE food while waiting for our ramen. I asked the same usher for water and you know what he told us that water won't be served when food isn't served. ?#!% His service attitude really sucks. Subsequently, i asked another young nice waitress and she quickly obliged and served us water. Such a stark contrast in attitude.

We ordered crab broth ramen with clear soup + all toppings (S$17.90) and also the crab broth ramen with rich soup + all toppings (S$18.90).

Personally between the 2 broths, i prefer the clear soup while Darling like the rich soup. Which works out fine as we don't need to fight over the same bowl!

The clear soup is very light on palate and has a distinct yuzu citrus taste. The noodle for this pretty soft. While the rich broth has very a overwhelmingly strong crab flavour. The rich broth has additional black fungus and noodle is more chewy. I not sure if its on purpose because i remember selecting the same texture for the noodle.

The rich soup is brewed with swimming crabs and chicken bones for more than 8 hours. While the clear soup is with a mixture of crabs and vegetables for 6 -8 hours. Perhaps that explains the difference in intensity of flavours.

But i am not very impressed with the ramen as i felt that the broth is too intense, the flavours are too sharp and strong that they overwhelm the other ingredients. There is no sweet lightness that i prefer in my soups. Though i know of many other people who are singing this may be their best bowl of ramen in their lifetime.

One thing for sure i will never do join this queue for another hour.

Pepenero - Italian Restaurant in CBD

Pepenero is an italian restaurant in the CBD area. The service is quite impeccable and its very very quiet on the weekday afternoon.

We are served bread as a starter and its pretty standard. Nothing too spectacular here.

Granchio (S$28) -Crab cake meat served with avacado and garlic aioli
The crab cake is packed full of crab meat (not stingy at all with the filling) but on its own its a little too salty. But eated with the salad simultaneoulsy it works well and the saltiness is balanced out by the fresh salad.
Rated: 6.5/10

Pappardelle (S$26) - pappardelle pasta served with pork sausage ragout and porcini mushrooms
The pork  is thoroughly mixed with truffle sauce and pasta sheets. I am not a fan of this type of pasta but well its not too bad and the sauce is less creamy then what i would expect from a ragout.
Rated: 6/10

Linguine All'Astice (S$32) - Linguine with Boston lobster in fresh tomato sauce and Marjoram
The lobster is very very well cooked. Its tender and moist and its definitely the star of the dish. The tomato base is a little creamy and has a very sourish taste to it. If there is a main that serves just the lobster is will order it straight off the menu. Its one of the best renditions i've ever tasted in a lobster.
Rated: 7/10

Semifreddo (S$14) - frozen zabglione souffle served with amaretto sauce
I was surprised when the souffle is served cold. Though creamy and soft, it holds its shape very well. I like the toppings of sweet caramel and crumbsRated: 6.5/10

I discovered a new found love - the american express platinum card. They have a list of dining promotions which they call palate dining privileges. 2nd person dines at 50% off which works perfectly for us. With the 50% discount in place, this meal is definitely worth very bite. :D

Yong Hua You Tiao - my old time favourite

This stall has been around Bedok for as long as i remember. And i always told my SO that this is the best you tiao in Singapore. Unfortunately, the standards dropped when the father of the stall handed over to the son. Though still nice and appetising the you tiao itself seems to have lost the super crispy on bite and yet soft  when bitten.

It is still a decent piece of  you tiao to chew on. For maximum yummy results dip in coffee (yes! coffee) instead of soya bean milk.
