Magic Kitchen - not your usual cafe

Been patronizing this store for a long long time. Its one of the hidden finds in Ang Mo Kio and only those staying around the area might be aware of this rare gem.

I love their home style soups and will have them on weekends. But they have long cease serving these nourishing soups on weekends.

Menu wise is wide ranging with a mix chinese cum western style breakfast. Meaning you can choose from bread toasts to curry chicken and desserts.

This is not your usual fancy pants cafe. But it does serve great food at fabulous price. The chairs and tables are the portable type that my mum will use. (sorry mum).
I love their zhu chang fen which is soft and tender and the brown gravy is just absolutely delicious.

Today, I feel like having the peanut butter with chocolate thick toast (guaranteed better than the local branch of dazzling café) and Hubs is having their kueh, yam cake and soon kueh.
The toast is toast to perfection and a good pairing with their local kopi (coffee). If you want to try something more fanciful, you can have a hazelnut coffee that doesn't break a bank.
The yam cake is also above average, soft tender and totally delicious.

Symmetry - One of the great brunch places

It was late in the morning and we have run of places to eat. Back and forth, me and hubs eliminated each of our proposal.

Exasperated i decide to turned to google. Symmetry came up, we explored the menu and finally something both of us can agreed on. We are fortunate that we got one of the few parking lots available without waiting too long.

The decor is Quirky! and reminds me of the movie the corpse bride.

The Flan (berkshire pork cheek, mushroom ragout, soubise sauce, mashed potatoes and prommety mustard) was highly recommended by other bloggers so i decided to give it a try. S$23
The flan dish is right on the spot on so many counts. The mushroom ragout is creamy and light. The pastry is thin and crispy. I suppose the 2 brown pieces refer to the pork cheek but i really can't quite decipher  the taste. Neither could hubs. The eggs is perfectly runny and the whole dish was phenomenal.

The Egg benedict (S$20)was described as poached eggs, aged cheddar, smoked bacon, cream baby spinach with onion hollandaise .
The Muffin is very well toasted and crunchy. The bacon is a perfect complement with the hollandaise sauce. This dish is savory, yet sweet and light. Its so delicious that Hubs cleaned out the plate in seconds.

Between the 2 dishes, the egg benedict is the more delicious but the flan is the definitely more unique. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

The cappucino (S$6.50) is served with the signature gingerbread man which i thought was cute. Taste wise, the brew is stronger and slightly bitter but still above average.
