Full of Luck Club - Prepare to win 4D

Well new year is coming....going to this place gives great vibes.

I told mr FAT that if he this place fail to live up to the hype we go the place i familiar with at Holland Village.

The dishes are served really fast. Might be attributed to the lack of patrons and there is plenty of seating spaces. The crowd did pick up a bit after 8 pm. Are Singaporeans having their meals later now?
Golden sand corn with salted egg yolk 金沙玉米 (S$4.80 ). This dish is highly recommended by a blogger. Hence, this is mr FAT must order item. Upon tasting, its simply corn kernels that are coated with salted egg sauce. I'm not too impressed with this dish.
Chilli glazed fried fermented bean paste chicken wings 韩式炸鸡腿 ($8.0) I have no expectations for this dish. Ordered because i was craving for something finger licking and i am pleasantly surprised. The wings are well fried and coated with just the right amount of flour. The meat is juicy and tender.

Stir fry radish cake with X.O. sauce ,XO酱炒萝卜糕($7.50) This dish is pretty outstanding. The radish is soft and moist on the inside. On the crust its crispy with wok hei. Thumbs up!
Salted egg yolk prawn 金沙虾  (savoury prawns in salted egg sauce, lettuce, fried curry leaves, crushed peanuts and bird's eye chilli), smoked duck 香熏鸭胸 (tender smoked duck breast in tangy sweet sauce, carrot cabbage slaw and spring onion). Bao aka buns option is any 2 for $9.80

I came here primarily for this. I can't forget the little bao i had in Hong Kong. But i am quite sorely dissappointed. Its not bad but it just doesn't live a lasting impression. Mr FAT mentioned that its not on the top of must it food on their menu so i am pretty unfair to them if i am eating this as a mains. ok ok! point noted.

Between the 2 buns, i will repeat my order of  smoked duck because it is more flavourful and all the ingredients works well together.

Tried my first Bi Luo Chun 洞庭碧螺春 $6.50, a light flavoured green tea that complements all the dishes we ordered.

I think i might return here again if i miss Little bao. This is the closest food that is similar in Singapore.

Irvin's Restaurant - Salted Egg Potato Chips, Love it so much i had to hide it

This is really very yummylicious bottle of chips. What i love is the authentic taste and generous dose of salted eggs, fried curry leaves and chilli padi and well mixed with the potato slices.

My main grouse are the potato chips are in small crumbly pieces compared to what im used to (equivalent of lay's potato chips). I get that its to pack it economically for the customers but i don't really like picking the smaller pieces. Apart from that this is really really good.

The last i heard there is a waitlist for about 1 month for this and it doesn't come cheap at S$15 per can. @_@

Antoinette - is the salted egg yolk croissant good?

I been to Antoinette once in a while but usually when i had a craving for french food. They do serve quite decent and nice food from the few times i've visited the Penhas branch.

Antoinette is the tea salon established by the Sugar Daddy Group, helmed by award winning pastry chef Pang Kok Keong. Named after the last queen of France, this cafe offers  meticulously crafted cakes, French pancakes, sandwiches, and main courses. I always like the very neoclassical style of the place especially the uniquely tin plated ceiling.
Today, i visited this place for the sole purpose of trying out their salted egg yolk croissant. Business was brisk and most people at the counter are eagerly awaiting for the piping hot croissants that just came out from the kitchen. As the people in front of us ordered like 10 croissants and the entire tray was wiped out, we thought with a sinking feeling there goes our chance to try it. Fortunately, for us, this is our day. We requested to dine in but have to return the table by 1.30 pm. As we have a good 2 hours to enjoy our meal, we happily agreed.
if you order 10 croissants sir, what happens to the rest of us?
As MR is reluctant to share the croissant (since it was ranked top by one food blogger), we ordered one croissant (S$6.50) each.  The croissants are served hot and the buttery baked aroma is making us salivate.
Putting the fork through the croissant, the crust is crispy and flakes off. The golden yolk oozes out from the croissant.
Salted egg yolk croissant, Rated: 6/10

Upon tasting, i like the flaky crispy texture but not so impressed by the yolk. Having eaten very finger licking golden custard salted egg buns, this yolk reminds me more of a moon cake. I will prefer for the yolk to be more robust and savory with a tinge of saltiness. Though, this is the only salted egg yolk croissant i tried, i think i will steamed golden custard salted egg buns is a better marriage.
Latte, Rated: 6/10

To supplement our croissants we also ordered lattes, blinis with blueberries and maple syrup (S$13) and french toast with caramelised banana (S$13).

I was surprised when the latte is served, the cup is too dainty to ba a latte. I always like lattes to be served more traditionally, 240 ml with one shot espresso, filled with steamed milk and 12 mm thick of froth on top. For a cup this size, we are definitely missing the steamed milk and froth. Hrumph!

Blinis with blueberries and maple syrup

As restaurants rarely served pancake with blueberries in the pancake, i was looking forward to trying this dish. But i was quite let down as the blueberries are bland and pancake tasteless. This is so even with the maple syrup and chantilly cream.

French toast with caramelised bananas

The toast is quite well done though. Sweet and well toasted.

Footnote: Do try to go early to get the salted egg yolk croissants, a friend who visit the restaurant on the same day afternoon returned home empty-handed as the croissants have been sold out.
