PocoLoco - Another pasta mania in the making

We are always excited by new cafes that are set up within the neighbourhood. It always meant we have more food choices for dinner.

We visited PocoLoco within 2 weeks of reading it on a food blogger's write up. During ordering, we commented on the small servings and are assured that what is shown on the blog is a tasting session, the actual size is much bigger.

Fegato d'oca - Foie gras with truffle cream (S$10)

Rated: 5/10
The foie gras is soft and when cut the centre is raw and red. Imagine uncooked liver and this visualisation kind of turn me off but Mister is ok to finish up the dish. Taste wise i will give it a pass as the cream and black pepper sauce is yummy but doesn't really go well with the foie gras and there is too much oil drizzled on, giving it a very greasy feel.

Carbonara - Cream pasta with bacon (S$11)

Rated: 6.5/10
Tagliatelle is used in both the pasta dishes we ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish as it has the right amount of cheese and cream that makes it not to overwhelming that one person cannot complete the dish on her own. For choice of pasta, i would have preferred spaghetti be used in this pastas as i find tagliatelle a little tough in texture compared to a spaghetti. But the flavours are there in this dish, it was well mixed, the cream, the bacon brings out the best of what a carbonara should be.

Granchio - Crabmeat in pink sauce (S$12)

Rated: 6/10
Mister ordered the Granchio. I was having high expectations for this dish as highly recommended in the blog but upon tasting both pasta dishes. Granchio actually pales in comparison to carbonara. I might be biased as i am always a cream pasta person. Although i will classify this as a cream tomato base. Much crab meat is mashed and torn and mixed in the sauce is very flavourful (taste like seafood soup broth). I will prefer to have this in soup rather than a pasta.

Creme Brulee - egg custard with hard burnt caramel (S$5)

Rated: 4/10
This is the worse dish by far. The dessert is very thin and flat and the top caramel crust though thin is hard crystalised sugar. Biting it taste like chewing on a sweet. The egg custard is extremely sweet and eggy. Deeply disappointed.

This is a simple unassuming place and is good to try for its pasta and who knows it may be another pasta mania which provides good and reasonably priced pasta.
