Fish and Chicks - Not too impressive and over hyped

The famous fish and chicks made famous by blogger Seth Lui .After the blog article was published, there is a massive queue (everytime I want to eat) and the signature fish and chips are usually sold out for lunch and dinner.

Finally, I head down on a weekday night and the queue is finally not so horribly long (still waited an hour before food is served). I ordered their best of both worlds $12.90 which has the signature salted egg sauce and chilli crab sauce drizzled on the fried fish.

I quite like the fish as it taste fresh and is well fried and with the meat retaining its moisture after deep frying. But halfway through the dish, I started to feel overindulgent and greasy (age must be catching up) and I am tempted to abandon the entire dish.

The sauce though delicious are only drizzled sparingly. I will have very much preferred the sauce to be served on a dish and I can dip as much as I want to and the fried fish won’t turn soggy in between mouthfuls. Between the 2 sauces, salted egg with fried fish is a better combination then the chilli crab sauce which I felt that something missing and doesn’t really work with the fish. Rated: 6.5/10

More care should be considered when ordering the sides, as I end up with almost everything fried. :(

On 2nd visit, I decided to try their Hawaiian grilled chicken cutlet ($7.90). It was very very dry and really quite unappealing. Even the cheese on top doesn’t save the day. I guess I had my fair share of fish and chicks and you won’t see me visiting this place anytime too soon. Perhaps on the day the crowd wanes down and I may just reconsider. Rated: 4.5/10

Food tasted: 28 April 2016 and 12 May 2016
